Transformation Tuesday: Bathroom Update
As many of you know we no longer have our super cool barn board walled studio in Thompson Boro :( but we did buy a house! We are still in the Thompson area but now in Ararat Twp.
-We do have a large garage that we will be sectioning off and converting into a studio space.
-For now we are using our living room for an indoor studio for children.
-We do have 2.4 acres of awesomeness for photos and plan to do more landscaping next year so we will have more options for taking photos.
Over the past few months we have been painting, painting, and more painting, spackling, ripping out carpets, making a mantle, changing light fixtures, and fixing some more serious issues we have found along the way. Thankfully we have had help from our wonderful family.
Aside from photography one thing that we both love is home improvement projects. Back before we cut the cable a year ago some of our favorite shows were My First Home, Flipping Vegas, and Rehab Addict. I love the idea of restoring a home's beauty. I like to think of my house as a large functional art piece. We did not get the old farm house we were hoping for but did end up with a cute "improved" cabin on the edge of the woods.
One thing most of the folks on these shows don't have to do is live in the house while they are working on it. We are finally getting this place looking more like a home and I am feeling more relieved as I am tripping less over tools and boxes. It has been fun, exhausting, trying, nerve-racking, and exciting. We are finishing up the projects we have started but still have a lot of work ahead of us for the years to come. At least now our home is becoming more functional.
A few things I would suggest for those jumping into the adventures of homeownership,
-Don't cheap out on paint! Just ignore that hefty price tag and buy the good stuff the first time because if you don't you will end up buying mediocre paint that doesn't cover and then wind up spending more money on good paint you could have bought the first time around. (Can you tell we have experience in this department?)
-Multitasking on projects doesn't always work. Unless you have a work crew helping you accomplish all of your projects just stick to doing one or two at a time. When you start several projects and try to get them all done it becomes extremely overwhelming.
-While on the subject of projects remember, you have many years to accomplish all of the projects you want. I have to keep reminding myself of this one.
-Do have any furnaces/heating units serviced by an HVAC professional at least to get you started. I would suggest that this is at the top of your to do list. You may be unaware of issues with your furnace even if your inspector did look at it. Heat is essential for at least 6 months of the year in NEPA so don't leave this one go, if there is an issue have it taken care of.
-Overestimate on your project timeline and budget as something always comes up :)
Ok, back to the subject of this post-Transformation Tuesday
So it’s not the usual Transformation Tuesday post you are used to seeing but nonetheless transformation has occurred.
I just wanted to share a few before and after photos of our first floor bathroom.
Unfortunately with the many boxes and messiness I did not have a chance to take all of the before shots. So luckily I was able to get one from the MLS.
